just for the record, i am thankful that although sometimes things suck and are really hard, it could be much worse. and really, i am blessed. even if i don't think or feel it a lot of the time.

just for the record.

my camera does this thing with video mode where it makes a jpeg with nine stills from the video footage. i don't know why it does that, but it does. and these are the result of such a function.

completely unpacked

this morning, while sam, cathy and grant visited i unpacked the last box we had left to unpack from moving. i'd kind of forgotten about it, as i'd conveniently put it under the beanbag in the dining room, probably in an attempt to forget about it.

it was a box of the stuff i didn't want to have to think about unpacking. sentimental crap that i have no place for, but didn't want to throw out. things like souvenirs from overseas trips (from early childhood and beyond), old medals, knick knacks from my grandma and the like. so i went through it and assigned things to one of five places:

(a) the bin
(b) the recycling
(c) a bag for giving to an op shop
(d) a bag to give to my mum so she can deal with it
(e) our dining room table

i'm hopeful that the (e) catagory things will move on. i'm sure they will.

body

The human body is a pretty crazy invention.

Some useless info:
Beards are the fastest growing hairs on the human body.
Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell.
Our eyes never grow, our nose and ears never stop growing
There are 450 hairs in an average eyebrow.
The storage capacity of the human brain exceeds four terabytes.
Your thumb is the same length as your nose.
It takes the food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.
Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.
Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.

jarsies words

"I look beyond the empty cross
forgetting what my life has cost
and wipe away the crimson stains
and dull the nails that still remain
More and more I need you now,
I owe you more each passing hour
the battle between grace and pride
I gave up not so long ago
So steal my heart and take the pain
and wash the feet and cleanse my pride
take the selfish, take the weak,
and all the things I cannot hide
take the beauty, take my tears
the sin-soaked heart and make it yours
take my world all apart
take it now, take it now
and serve the ones that I despise
speak the words I can't deny
watch the world I used to love
fall to dust and thrown away
...
take my world apart, take my world apart
I pray, I pray, I pray
take my world apart"

president obama

"...To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it..."

I hope he speaks truth that will see action and real change, led by the "most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth".

gold!

so sad is that the xxxx gold beach cricket is only being held at coolangatta this year. it was so awesome last year! not that we could have been able to go this time around, but nice to have the option. at least channel 10 is doing a good job of covering it.

perhaps next january will call for a short gold coast holiday to enjoy some beachy crickety goodness.

'z's and 'f's

sometimes you just gotta blog a photo

fakingit.jpg

meanwhile, this morning for some reason i forgot that my laptop keyboard is not the keyboard from howie's super old iMac at work. i noticed a piece of food (cornflake or something) lodged under the 'F'. so i pulled the 'F' off to get it out. And just after i did, i realised the iMac keyboard was the one with easily removed and replaced letters. my laptop has an easily removed and replaced entire keyboard, NOT individual letters. So now my 'F' floats around a bit, only attached by two instead of four clips. poo.

updategood thing howie is around. he told me to just push the 'F' down harder, and 'click!'. phew. i need the letter 'F' to be functional.

travel trouble

oh my good golly goshness.

my first trip with oscar to westie and he is almost squished to death.

all is going fine and dandy. i've made my fruit and veggie purchases from freshco, and continue on my merry way to the travelators to travelate back up to target level and get out of the centre. so on i roll. there is a girl in front of me with a trolley - a fair few paces ahead. but i notice that those fair few paces are dwindling, as she slowly rolls backwards, struggling to hold her trolley. for some reason her wheels didn't lock into the travelator system, and she wasn't able to hold the trolley herself. so i started backing away a bit, but can't go too far as there is a trolley behind me. we're stuck in a trolley sandwich. and unfortunately, oscar's pram ends up being the meat which holds the upper trolley in place. another girl jumps up from behind me to help hold the pram in place, while this girl in front apologises.

i think, it's ok, we're almost at the end of the travelator. but little did i know that the worst was yet to come. we get to the top of the travelator, and this girl can't get her trolley off!!! so she's stuck there with the travelator continuing to roll, and the pram smooshing into her more, and the trolley behind me smooshing more in to me, and the following people and trolleys. i pushed her trolley so hard to get it out of the freaking way before my son was splatted. and eventually we got there.

a bunch of people came over to me to ask "is the baby ok?". and he was, although rather than lying down he was now sitting up because the sandwich had pushed the back of his pram up into the sitting position.

i decided to take the lift for the next 1.5 levels. as did the girl who couldn't control her trolley. awkward.

so we survived westfield. blimey.

don't think i've ever written the word 'travelator' so many times in one sitting.

smartass

debbie and james gave howie this boardgame for christmas

SmartAssBox.jpg

they and tom played it on new years eve, but i was sleeping.

this afternoon, howie and i took advantage of the small one sleeping, and played a few rounds. it's good fun. even with just two people. i'm sure it's much more loud and competitive with more people, but answering questions and the luck of the draw is fun.

howie won some, i won some, and in the final winner takes all game, i technically won, but we went for the pool rules of playing for a draw. and so in the loveliness of all things sportsmanshiply, howie happened to answer all his questions right and drew the game. good work.

Deb & James: second time round

James and Deby got married yesterday. And it was a lovely wedding indeed. Deby is so beautiful and cute and was so excited. James was handsome, sweet and funny. Very special

A couple of pics...

James whisked Oscar away from us before the ceremony, although he did evenutally hand him back

A special moment between Howie, the bride and groom at the reception

100_49961.JPG

After the ceremony there was an afternoon tea. So some mingling was done and some fairy bread and mini cupcakes were eaten, some photos taken, before heading back home for an attempt at a nap.

Oscar had timed his own napping well so that we all got to enjoy the entrance of the bride, before Howie whisked him away to beat any crying. He did need a feed halfway through the service, but the church crying room is a good place to still hear and see what's going on. It's kind of weird having to schedule yourself around this little person who's needs generally need to be met as they arise. He had a mini-nap at home before waking up a hungry boy. Which meant he screamed bloody murder as we waited for the Noobs to come drive us to the reception. It was good to see the Noobs. At least they made it back for the reception. Oscar enjoyed the car trip, as he and most babies tend to do, but not so much the Berowra Waters ferry though. I then fed him for a good 40 minutes in the car before heading into the reception. And from there he was an angel and slept the whole time.

It's a different experience being a wedding guest with a baby. Although because he slept, I did feel like a 'normal' person, and got to enjoy all the usual frivolity of wedding photo fun.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Sutherland!

better days

thankfully i am feeling much much better today. have since last night. so that is good news. although i am very tired. and it doesn't seem oscar caught it - not that you can really tell whether a breastfeed baby has diarrheoa or not, as runny yellow poos are the go. nice!

meanwhile, debbie and james are trapped in fiji. flooded roads mean they couldn't get to the airport and so missed their flight this morning. of course there are worse places in the world to be stuck, but it's not looking simple for getting a new flight home. so if you are of the praying kind, please pray they will be able to get a flight home soon - especially that it would be in time for deby and james' wedding tomorrow afternoon (which was the main reason they had a short honeymoon).

being ill

having a dependent child adds a whole new dimension to being sick. it's not like i can say "sorry oscar, i'm not sure if i'm going to vomit on you or will have to drop you fast to run to the toilet, so can we just skip this feed?". i am so glad i didn't vomit on him. nor vomit at all. for the too much information pile - it was all backdoor. but holding a feeding child on top of a churney/crampy stomach isn't much fun. i still feel like crap.

dots

~ what an end to the cricket. graeme smith is amazing. but i am very glad australia knocked them over. eventually.

~ life with a newborn is full on. duh. there are ups and downs. and sometimes it's hard to see beyond the downs. i haven't cried so much in my entire life (probably coz i'm not much of a crier. usually). i'm very glad to have the husband i have. he is wonderfully wonderful. and my parents are pretty tops too.

~ i am tired. oscar has been pretty good the last few nights. waking at about 1am and then about 6am for feeds. i think he's too young to have a routine yet, so i'm not holding my breath that such timings will continue.

~ i am looking forward to some cooler days. our bedroom is just dreadful during and at the end of a hot day. we have a ceiling fan, but sometimes that doesn't do much besides circulate very hot air. i am thankful there is an air conditioner in the kitchen. very thankful.

~ it's hard to keep eating properly. breastfeeding requires better eating than pregnancy. but it is so hard to find the time. not just to prepare, but even just to eat! i am trying.

get together

yesterday we had a bit if a gower family get together - granted there were some notable absences in debbie, noob, ben, steve and trigg, but it was a good effort!

it's funny having so many little people around nowdays. definitely keeps things busy. but all four of the bubs are so very cute. not that kaysey is a bub anymore. it's also kind of strange to have conversations dominated by motherly topics. i guess that's what happens when you become a mother, and three of your cousins are also mothers.

it was lovely, if not tiring, to see people in a less frantic setting than the wedding. and to eat some yummy food. and have oscar sleep through most of it! (sorry that most missed out on a cuddle! well done grandma and jo getting in early)

wonder when the next gathering will be.

almost mrs noble

tomorrow my sister gets married - how crazy and exciting! i am really hoping to be a present as possible for her. it's hard though - this mother thing is a tough gig. it makes me kind of sad that i don't get to participate in the wedding or support my sister as she was able to for mine. makes me sad for me and sad for debbie.

hopefully oscar is a good boy and eats and sleeps well throughout today and tomorrow. otherwise i might only be around to give my speech!

we shall see.
