i got a letter today stating that i have $202.11 in credit in my student fee account from Club Mac. it went on to ask if i would like to claim that credit.

hell yes.

God is a good bloke.

never mind the fact i finished in 2002 and last set foot in my uni for graduation almost four years ago.

swivel

we got this baby delivered today

new chair.JPG

we finally have an office chair. we haven't had a chair in the study since we had a study.

but what's awesome is that it was $79, on sale from $139. and what's more awesome is that they delivered the "better" model, which was initially $159, but on sale for $89. and what's even more awesome is that they delivered it for free because they didn't have any in stock.

what's not so awesome is that i'm not quite sure how to put it together. so it doesn't quite look like the photo yet. i'm sure we'll get there.

anxiety

our boys are stressing me out. i'm worried about them, and if we're looking after them right. tricky when you get lots of different advice! we bought a new set up today. not cheap. ham is still all weird, and it was an effort to feed him tonight. although piney has a new favourite... corn! and daddy's fingers.

hopefully their new set up will help ham and be good fun for them. although they won't be able to see the tv so well.

i too am worried about our little hammy. i have been emailing a few "experts" about his behaviour and have got two replies asking more questions, to which i've replied. hopefully we have an answer soon. it may end up with a visit to the reptile vet at crows nest. our poor little baby.

unfortunately we bid farewell to lachy and will from the ol' links list. as much as it saddens me, it's been many a month since either blogged. and so the culling must begin.

Guard dogs protecting a fruit orchard in Malaysia have met their match - a 7.1-metre long python that swallowed at least 11 hounds before it was finally discovered by villagers.

"I was shocked to see such a huge python," orchard-keeper Ali Yusof told the New Straits Times.

The paper published a picture of the captured snake, which was almost long enough to span the width of a tennis court and as thick as a tree trunk.

Villagers did not harm the snake, but tied it to a tree and then handed it to wildlife officials, the paper said today.

chums

today was the day of friends. tamara visited the office not once but twice (technically). as did lachy. when i finished work, the standing out the front of the office with those two and will became a two hour visit to my house. how fun. we drank coke products. and looked at google earth.

then tonight, howie and i had dinner at snowy's, with tom and sam. we had yummy pizza - go zoe! - and played cranium. go the girls!! me and snow beat the boys... just! that was my first attempt at cranium. it's no match for 'who, what where' but we laughed lots nonetheless.

sleepy time is coming soon and that is joyful.

our lounge room smells suddenly. it didn't when i left at 7:45pm. either of 'wet' (you know, the wet carpet in the car musty kinda smell) or of jake. but i don't know what jake smells like so i'm not sure if it's him.

tamara or lachy, can you tell me if jake smells like wet car carpet?

sure i was born in '81 but i sure am a 90's kid!!

You're a 90's kid if:
(bolded means "oh yeh i remember!")

You remember tazos.

You can finish this [ice ice _ _ _ _ ]

You remember watching Doug and Ren & Stimpy

AAAAAAAH Real Monsters!

You had a favourite member from FIVE.

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence . . . not

You would play hide and go seek until your legs grew numb

You remember obeying your parents

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record your FAVORITE song of ALL time.

Video hits was actually good.

"Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?" was both a game and a TV game show.

Captain Planet. He's a Hero.

You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green ranger, were meant to be together.

You remember when Super Nintendos and Sega Genisis became popular.

You always wanted to send in a tape to Australia's Funniest Home Videos . . . but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching Home Alone 1, 2 , and 3 . . . and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders"

You had a fringe at some point. None of this side fringe crap, a real fringe

You remember those Where's Wally books.

You remember eating Warheads.

You remember watching the Aladdin.

You remember Ring Pops.

If you remember when every thing was "da BOMB!"

You remember walkmans

Writing M.A.S.H. notes.

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell".

You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet, or Nano and brought it everywhere.

. . . Furbies.

You haven't always had a computer, and it was cool to have the internet.

And Windows 98 was the best.

You watched the original cartoons of Rugrats, Power Rangers, and Ninja Turtles.

When Goth (NOT EMO) was crazy cool! Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, the good bands.

You remember Bewitched, Jump 5, S-Club 7, and that whole period with the boy bands and pop divas.

You remember exactly where you were and what you were doing the first time you saw a Britney Spears or N'SYNC video.

Michael Jordan was a king.

No one had brand pencilcases

You collected those Beanie Babies.

Carebears

Lambchop

You collected all the Troll dolls

You owned a portable tape player.

You know the Macarena and the nutbush by heart.

"Talk to the hand" . . . enough said

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

You went to McDonald's to play in the playplace.

Before the MySpace frenzy . . .

Before the Internet & text messaging . . .

Before iPods . . .

Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX . . .

Before Spongebob . . .

When you got one sheet of homework for the whole week.

When light up sneakers were cool.

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off of our walkmans.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back.

When it was all about N64.

WHEN YOU TRADED POKEMON CARDS FOR A LIVING.

Before we realized all this would eventually disappear.

Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!!

health plus

a lot of fun was had last night with howie, josh and sam, plus of course myself.

we started with a really unhealthy dinner - pizza, nuggies, wedges. so we thought it best to get out and about a bit.

P1020859.JPG

we headed to brick pit park. there's a massive non-little-child friendly flying fox, so we all had a go. there were a few scraps and falls. you gotta go hard on these things

100_1389.jpg

100_1391.JPG

100_1392.JPG

then we had a climb on the biggest OH&S playground risk i've ever seen, which was quite fun, albeit painful without shoes

100_1399.JPG

i even made it to the top! i'm not a wussbag!! although i did make the boys climb down and not shake it so i could

100_1400.JPG

took a couple of nice family shots

100_1402.JPG

and i love this one - i think it's really cool of the boys!

100_1404.JPG

and we completed our night of healthiness with a trip to silverwater/auburn for some KK

100_1407.JPG

retreating

i'm leaving this weekend with a mixture of the mind.

i'm tired, excited, petrified, optimistic, fearful, anxious, overwhelmed, appreciative, hot and wondering. and probably much more.

quite a mix i think. it was interesting to be with a bunch of people - some of whom i know well, some of whom i have never spoken to before, and others in between - who are so different in our strengths, but all passionate about young people and young adults in our different ways. i'm glad to have strengthened friendships, and hope to strengthen team life for the particular bit i'm a part of.

i'm a bit anxious about being boxed and labelled. i don't mind being in my little box, most of the time, but it would be nice to have a someone share my box sometimes.

sometimes i find it hard to be connected to anything. i think it's apathy more than anything else.

i can't believe that the alarm where we were staying malfunctioned and went off every hour or less from midnight last night. that was insane. and loud. and incredibly annoying.

that being said, i am thankful for the alarm malfunctioning because our substitute venue had air conditioning.

i am thankful for cookies and cream icecream.

i am thankful for my sister.

i am wanting to be thankful for opportunities. and less scared of the bigness of things.

we went on a localised adventure today. we thought it a good idea to have pie in the sky for lunch. and it was. i had a vegetable pie, and howie had a chicken and corn. there were many motorcycles and cars at pie in the sky. there seemed more vehicles than people.

then we cinema-ed it up. we saw 'the pursuit of happyness'.

it was pretty long and slow, but it was good too. had the feel good ending. and i like will smith. his son is pretty cute. if i did ratings, it would probably be about 4/7.

do you remember year 6?

myspace is a bad place. these things keep popping up. so, on we go!

THINK BACK TO 6TH GRADE...
Let's see how much you remember and how much you regret.

1. Who was your best friend?
sam stuart and hayley reid

2. Who did you like?
ryan ewart

3. What sports did you play?
tennis, little bit of netball, little bit of teeball, little bit of bin ball

4. Did you buy your lunch?
very rarely

5. It's Friday night, where were you?
at home with my family

6. Were you a party animal?
oh yeh - all that fairy bread, cake, i remember one party i went to and the party food was KFC. although that may have been year 5.

7. Skip School?
no way

8. Did you get suspended/expelled?
no way. i got in trouble once in the whole of school - for swearing at a spider during bush regeneration. i was only caught coz it was in the background of a video

9. Can you sing the alma mater?
school song yeh? not really. i can for high school. but NWPS' "Aim High" isn't quite all there for me. i do remember "at normanhurst west we try our best, aim high aim high aim high. in work and play, in all we say, aim high aim high aim high" and the tune.

10. What was your favorite class?
i think i liked maths. and science

11. What was your schools name?
NWPS

12. Did you go to the dances?
i only remember three. and i was at them.

13. If you could go back in time and do it all over would you?
oh yeh - what a bludge!! where it was legitimate classwork to do colouring in! count me in!

14. What do you remember most about 6th grade?
dance group, liking ryan, the slip n slide on mufti day

15. Favorite memory in 6th grade?
year 6 camp was pretty awesome. sam and i snuck out to visit the boys room. and this one boy liked me and bought me a koala. i gave it back to him coz i didn't like him, so i didn't want to accept his gift. so he ripped it's head off.
also, i must say i was pretty proud to get dux.

16. Where did you go most often for lunch?
i can't remember in year 6. bottom oval i guess.

17.What did you do on the last day of school?
i have no idea. i'm sure there was an assembly. and i remember lots of crying.

so that was 1993. what was it for you?

in the summertime

howie, sam and i went to the beach today. the glory of north narrabeen. and i woosed out coz the water was freezing! but it was still a nice day of fun in the sun, and sand. and we used our awesome beach tent. it's so great.

i did take photos with howie's phone, but they haven't arrived in my inbox as yet.

we had dinner at my parents house. and got a phone call from my sister who is lucky to be alive. she was driving to crescent head, when her car lost it on a bend, and flipped over! fortunately she only has a scratch on her arm, but my goodness it could have been bad. they (whichever authorities 'they' are) think that her tyre blew, and caused her to lose control. but thankyou God that she's ok. bit freaked out but ok.

but it could be bye bye to that car. ahh the process of crash - write off decision made - cheque. took me about four weeks.

cookery

went around to my mothers this afternoon and took down some good quality recipes. dinner time at our place might just end up a little more exciting than pasta and sauce, jaffles, mccains pizza and the odd stir fry or spag bol.

i really would like to enjoy cooking more. and i guess that will come with time. i hope it comes with time.

our weekly nightly schedule doesn't help matters much.

friday is lasagne night this week. that's a little scary. howie's favourite dish and i've never cooked it before.

zero tolerance

I'm not sure what I think about all these new restrictions, guidelines and tests for young drivers.

I've had my licence for almost eight years now. I got my P's before the days of 50 hours on your Ls, and of reds then greens. Pretty much for me, I got my L's (failed first time!) when I turned 16, hated driving so had to renew my L's when I turned 17, then restarted driving and got my P's three months after that.

Now I can't claim to have the best driving record, so I'm not here to debate skills of young drivers. I'm all for safety of young drivers, and everyone on the roads.

But I'm not sure why all the changes suddenly. Perhaps P-plate drivers were dying as well back in 'my day' but the media wasn't all that interested. I don't remember there being much hoo-ha about young driver training, about accidents, fatalities, irresponsibility etc. Was it just that things weren't being reported? Or was it that there wasn't much going on in terms of P-plate deaths.

I don't know what the statistics are, but if the system wasn't changing, but the rate of deaths was, does that point to the system or something else?

I must admit, the first time I turned right out of my street onto a major road with no-one beside me, I had the heebie jeebies. I didn't feel all that confident. Perhaps young drivers do need these restrictions, more practise, better skills. Perhaps we all do! I still see seasoned drivers try and turn right out of the street across the three lanes of southbound traffic, and have trouble with it.

But I'm not sure. Eight years doesn't seem that long ago. But oh my how things have changed.

where the streets have no name

i reckon everywhere ever, and especially in cities, should have clear street name signs. yes i do.

we adventured into the city centre by foot this morning, and wandered around places like kathmandu, good old chickenfeed, target... yep we get into the exotic stuff when we travel.

then to bunnings (you'll find out why later) and then to cataract gorge this morning. good fun driving our little getz, who we've named fahrenheit, around all the one way streets that make up launceston.

time to start getting ready for the wedding. yay for penny and andy. should be a good show.

oh. we found a coles thats open til midnight. eat that reception lady. way to know you're own town.

launie

ah, tasmania. the apple isle.

it's a quick one this time. not as quick as when josh graduated, but still two nights isn't a bad effort.

jetstar was late and bumpy.

our hotel is funny and just a step above dingy.

but the wedding will be good. and that's why we are here.

i'm hungry though.

i took a survey

my signature themes are Discipline, Harmony, Consistency, Analytical and Belief.

i think i'll find out more at our youth leadership retreat later this month.

i don't mind surveys or questionaires. i like them actually. although this one i answered "neutral" a lot.

today i am very tired. i don't think i slept well enough last night.

coasting

well, as promised we went adventuring down south. and first stop was howie avenue for a photo opportunity

100_1289.JPG

we also wondered whether bill got this message loud and clear

100_1290.JPG

we continued on through the royal national park (hoorah for our multipark pass) through to the south coast.

100_1295.JPG

our primary touristing reason was the new-ish sea cliff bridge, which we walked the length of before driving over it.

100_1297.JPG

100_1299.JPG

100_1302.JPG

100_1303.JPG

we witnessed evidence that the new road is a good idea - a little rockfall over the old road.

then we had some lunch at austinmer which was jolly good - we had spinach gozleme and a coke/diet coke. it was nice to sit in the shade looking at the beach and eat our yummy lunch.

100_1304.JPG

100_1305.JPG

we continued on down to wollongong - howie hadn't been there before, and i hadn't really much either. we stumbled upon city beach, and then walked back to the city centre. howie found a good lookout at the top of a hill - nice outlook over the roundabout.

100_1308.JPG

we wandered around, and got some mcflurries, and headed back to the beach and then the headland.

there are some nice view of the industrial area of the city

100_1309.JPG

the white lighthouse that seems to be on all the wollongong touristy stuff is sitting behind howie in this photo

100_1311.JPG

we started heading back home, and stopped at mt keira lookout, which was pretty impressive, and nicely refurbished in the last couple of years.

100_1316.JPG

100_1318.JPG

and that was our adventure for today. it was good stuff. the only poopy thing was that i'm a little sunburnt from the lack of forethinking in the shape of suncream as we walked the bridge. damn.

What the hell?!

"Jesus Christ help us all Lord"

Channel 7 has some show playing, but over to top of it (not part of the show) is an american man saying the above over and over again.

Very very strange.

adventure!

last night howie and i decided it was high time for another adventure. so we ventured by car to milsons point, and i found a free park!! good old loading zones. our umbrella makes this photo deceptively blue sky-ed

100_1253.JPG

we walked across the bridge and down to pancakes on the rocks! yummo. we just beat the crowds. i had bananarama and howie had the blackforest cherry. it's always hard work to finish off the two pancakes, but i got there. howie didn't quite. the chocolate pancakes taste like chocolate cake. not my thing.

it's always a quick meal at pancakes - coz i feel bad about the people lining up outside, and because the place is so uncomfortably warm! but it was good nonetheless.

then we went a wandering around circular quay, and across to the opera house. i took some photos. and tried to be as unshaky as possible in night mode without a tripod.

100_1260.JPG

100_1265.JPG

we continued back around to the fun lift up to the cahill expressway, and back across the bridge.

100_1269.JPG

100_1272.JPG

100_1274.JPG

isn't my husband an attractive man

100_1283.JPG

100_1285.JPG

100_1286.JPG

and back in the car we hopped for the short journey home.

today's adventure is grand pacific drive, with a detour to the only howie street (avenue) in sydney. whoopie!!

meanwhile, i'm still not convinced that image trick actually does the trick when it comes to resizing photos. it's a bit closer to the microsoft photo editor than the corel photopaint standard.

Pet a snake: most probably, i think i already have actually.

Spend a week in an empty room: not by choice

Ride in a hot-air balloon: it would take a bit of convincing i think

Sky dive: No

Sing in front of a huge audience: No

Scuba dive: I would like to think yes, but i'd have to deal with that whole fear of sharks and fish stuff

Sit in the front seat of a roller coaster: i don't really like roller coasters

Deliver a baby: if there was no one else around to help

Swim across the Amazon River: no

Change careers: Yes

Join a space mission: i don't think that would ever become a possibility, but maybe.

Tell everyone what you honestly think of them: depends on the person and what i had to say and the strength of our relationship

Call off your wedding: well, i didn't. i'm not planning on getting married again

Walk naked through Hyde Park for 10 minutes during rush hour: no

Disarm a bomb: No - I'll leave that to the people who know how to do it. Unless that became my career change.

Go on tour with Elvis: That doesn't appeal to me

Go swimming during a thunder storm: nah, not intentionally

toilet humour

the new year movie/KFC combo. goodie.

howie, debbie and i met tom, martin, lesley and anmol at hornsby. the foodcourt was shut so joseph's bakery it was.

and then onto greater union (where we ran into justine) for flushed away.

flushed.jpg

it was an ok movie. some funny spots, but it wasn't anything special in my mind. this was later reflected by others, with the ratings out of 10 ranging from three to six.

but off to a good start for this year's 52 film target for howie and tom.

now i think it may be nap time.

nye that was

welcome to 2007 again people. if you haven't felt welcomed enough already.

we brought in the year much like last year.

it all began as josh, howie and i headed into waverton at 1:47pm.

1347 hrs.JPG

found a good park, trained it to wynyard and walked to observatory hill. there were a few people already but not tonnes. we found a good spot, not wuite under the tree, and with a good enough view of the bridge. i did feel a little self-conscious as josh and howie began setting up the gazebo, as it caused two groups of people to move away from us. but once it was up, didn't it look nice.

a perfect gazebo.JPG

well that lasted about 10 minutes. a good gust of wind came through, and over it went. beyond repair. so an executive decision was made that it was over, and the boys enjoyed pulling it apart. obviously it had been a very sturdy article.

breaking it up.JPG

crap thing.JPG

the gazebo's final resting place.

done and done.JPG

the afternoon continued on: bono-on-bono, popcorn, conversation, chocolate biscuits, pretzels...

there was a fly by of some sort of plane, as you can clearly see here. and that threatening sky never did anything but threaten - praise the lord!

eve sky.JPG

we found good use of our new kathmandu seats. although they give you a bad back after a few hours of consistent use.

fairly comfy.JPG

we were joined by various peoples throughout the remaining daylight and evening. more food was eaten, more drinks drunk, more conversation conversed.

it was good to spend another new years with my sister. we've only had two apart.

gower and howie.JPG

this is the only photo i took of any sort of skyline or night landscape. i didn't even bother with the fireworks. no tripod = no go.

great north syd shot.JPG

and this is a lovely moment shared by howie and tom.

happy boys.JPG

in any case, it was a fun evening that didn't drag on too long. the fireworks, well they were good, but fireworks never really do it for me. the bridge ones weren't all that exciting, and they did finish abruptly. but still, a spot of fireworks every now and then is a good thing i'm sure.

once all the happy new years were wished, we proceeded to walk to wynyard with the sea of people, and boarded an empty train to northern sydney. it remained quite empty for the three stations we were on it. i felt very sorry for the thousands of people stuck outside milsons point station. remind me never to go there on new years.

it took us a good half an hour to get out of waverton once we got back to the car - a nice mixture of traffic, traffic lights, and bloody pedestrians. we pumped up ben harper, and enjoyed exchanging pleasantaries with surrounding commuters and randoms.

and 2am brought us to our doorstep.

and that, my friends, is a recap.

i do hope that 2007 is kind to you, and you to it.

happy new year once again.
