regular unleaded please

all the new petrol options are confusing me.

today i accidentally put premium unleaded in duckie (thankfully only $8.02 worth).

i just want normal unleaded. not something with ethanol (which a few years ago there was uproar at petrol stations putting ethanol in petrol, and now it's the go?!), or octane, or some numbered unleaded. what is the usual one?

thankfully the shell in hornsby still has the old pumps. my old favourite in thornleigh is all new fangled. i drove straight through a few weeks ago because i didn't know which to get! how embarrassing.

so please... enlighten me! because this doesn't seem to help me either.

It depends what kind of car Duckie is, but generally any 91 unleaded or 91 unleaded with 10% Ethanol is fine. 95 (or 98) "Premium" unleaded wont hurt it, but you're wasting your money unless your car is built to take advantage of it.

The "10% ethanol is bad for your car" is has been proven untrue in most cases. You either have to have an old car or a "performance" car for it to be an issue.

Diesel is obviously a no no unless you have a car built for diesel.

I found out today that the equivalent at Mobil is "2000".

Seriously consider whether you want to use E10 (ethanol) fuel. There's lots of info around about its impact on the environment.

Yeah, it may be better for the Ozone layer, use less oil, etc etc... but the production of it (using sugar cane) apparently has severe impacts on the environment.

Ask Sam... he enlightened me a little while ago.

I know that sucks, cos it means almost the only options left are more expensive unleadeds. But from what I understand, I'm more content with using that than using E10.
